Women in Careers Conference

On Friday, March 11th, 2011 – Kohl's Territory Sr. Vice President Anne Horter, Regional Talent Manager Jackie Cantrell, Store Manager Regina Moreno, CSULB Alum/Assistant Store Manager Mindy Lo, and University Relations Manager Courtney Graf represented Kohl’s at the Cal State University Long Beach annual Women in Careers Conference. This was the first time for Kohl’s to participate in the conference.

The conference is attended by approximately 175 CSULB faculty and young female student leaders, and is led by a panel of local female Executives. The panelists address their personal career choices, advice to students, and various other topics throughout the event. In addition to panelists, there is a “Tabletalk” networking session, in which local female Executives facilitate a networking roundtable with student attendees. Kohl’s hosted two “tabletalk” tables to network one on one with students.

Kohl’s also donated two door prizes, consisting of gift cards and water bottles. As Kohl's continues to build presence on campus at CSULB, we hope to expand our involvement with the conference next year.

Kohl’s will be back on campus March 16th & April 25th to facilitate Career Services workshops, and April 26th to host a faculty luncheon!

On Campus Interviews at the University of North Texas

First interviews at University of North Texas went extremely well. We interviewed a good mix of students with marketing, merchandising, and management majors. The students were eager to learn more about Kohl’s Internship and Store Manager-In-Training opportunities, and about how these opportunities could help them grow and develop their potential careers in retail management.

Our campus team was impressed with the professionalism of the students, as well as their knowledge about Kohl’s!

Kohl's Associate, Cassandra Raffaelli, HR/Ops Assistant Store Manager, had this to say about the on campus interviews:

"We were really excited to see that the candidates were better prepared this year and that was refreshing. They were able to speak to the positions that we are offering and we pushed several through to final interviews."

Kohl's Classroom Presentations at Washington State University

On Tuesday March 1st, and Wednesday March 2nd, Kohl's Regional Vice President & Washington State University Alum Michele Fitzgibbon and University Relations Manager Courtney Graf completed a series of events on campus. Michele presented “Leadership Skills” to 25 students in the Merchandising school, 175 students in a Management course, and “The 5 Roles of a Manager” to a Women in Management course of 30 students – reaching in total, over 230 WSU students!

Michele and Courtney also hosted 8 WSU faculty members in various departments and Career Services for a Faculty Breakfast to learn more about Kohl’s, and opportunities for WSU students. The breakfast ran for an hour, and included a “Kohl’s 101” and great Q&A discussion.

“Kohl's seems like a great company to work for; I was particularly impressed with how much employees can advance within the company in such a short period of time! Thank you so much for making the trip up here and presenting at Washington State” – WSU Student

Kohl’s will be back on campus late March for final interviews, and April 14th for the Carson Etiquette Dinner!

Other events this semester included a “Dress for Success” event with the SIFE organization (2/8), and sponsorship of the Business Case Study Competition 1st place prize on campus (3/4).

Kohl's Attends the University of North Texas Career Fair

Our Campus Team was excited to return to the University of North Texas this Spring! We had a diverse group of students with various majors visit our booth, but the majority were business majors. We were pleased to also see a large number of sophomores approach the booth to inquire about our internship program. When the Career Fair ended, we had scheduled over 15 students for our first round of interviews!

"I was impressed with the fact that the students knew so much about our company. We had a lot of students that came to our booth because they love shopping with us. They were excited to see that we had internship opportunities available."

– Hayley Pulpanyawong, Kohl's Associate out of the Mansfield Kohl's Store
