University of South Carolina Dress for Success

Kohl’s Department Stores in collaboration with the College of Hospitality, Retail, and Sports Management at the University of South Carolina hosted their annual “Dress for Success Fashion Show.” The event was held in two Professional Development courses on Monday, September 24th. The morning class featured a presentation on successfully transitioning from college to career and professional attire accompanied by a student fashion show. Kohl's sponsored $1,000 worth of business casual and professional apparel for four male and four female students to model in their classes as examples.

Among the representatives for Kohl’s were:

Janelle Havner, Territory Senior Vice President
Blaine Predmore, Regional Vice President
Roland Johnson, Territory HR Vice President
Merle Mack, HR Vice President
Phillip Daniels, District Manager
Mike Autry, Store Manager
Blake Amick, Store Manager and USC Alum
Lauren Fylstra, Territory University Relations Manager
Bernadette Jones, Territory Talent Recruiter
Hannah Howell, Assistant Store Manager and USC Alum
Jessica Lee, Assistant Store Manager and USC Alum
Hilary Boaz, Kohl’s Campus Ambassador

In the afternoon class of approximately 125 students, Janelle kicked off the event with a few inspirational words on how she achieved her level of success and also gave some advice on careers in the retail industry. Following Janelle's keynote address, Blaine kicked off "Dress for Success" by offering career advice to students on how to market yourself in going from college to career. Blaine then introduced the male models and described their looks from Kohl's before handing it over to Lauren to emcee the fashion show for the female models. Each model showed off both “business professional” and “business casual” looks for the audience to gain a better understanding of what is expected in today’s workplace. The presentation was concluded with explaining how to build a professional wardrobe in college and a question & answer session.

In addition to Kohl's representatives attending this evening event, Dean Brian Mihalik, was also present!
